Language Arts: Children started off the week finishing up with the letter K and creating Kites.
*Letter of the week was V. *Sight words: have, her, this - children practiced spelling, writing, and reading these words. *We used our poem A Valley View to practice identifying v in text as well as listen for v in the beginning and ending of words. Children also searched for THIS, HAVE, and HER in the poem. *Children have been working busily in their ABC list book of Kindergarten Memories. We started the week with I and J pages and have worked our way through R. Through this activity children have worked on correct letter formation, placement, spacing, punctuation, segmenting the sounds in words and encoding. They have created illustrations for each memory as well. We will continue with this project and will soon begin working on an author's page as well as a title page. *working in Explode the Code books
*Shared Reading - Our new BIG book is Grandpa, Grandpa - a young girls asks her dad to go fishing with her in the sea. They catch a variety of fish.
We tied the book into our upcoming Grandfriends' Day and children are working on writing their own big book: Grandfriends, Grandfriends. First we discussed what they would love to invite their grandfriend to "come and do." Then children wrote their words and illustrated their page. The pages will be compiled to make our own BIG book. We will share this book with Grandfriends during their visit. Children wrote in a similar pattern to the book we read "---name-------, ----name-------- come with me, let's go -------- in the/at the ------------."
